Scott,
Nice shot. Nice diffraction pattern on Betelgeuse.
If the darkest areas of the slide are gray, then you
probably exposed long enough.
Your technique seems advanced enough to take advantage
of darker skies if you have access to them.
With a 135mm lens you might consider an IDAS filter.

I prefer to stop down my lenses to f/4 or f/5.6 and
expose for proportionally longer. That reduces lens
aberrations.
