It depends on what his primary use is. For visual use I would say get the
Meade. For imaging get the G-11 combo.
Most of the hand controller problems you hear about are user-caused. The
(admitedly poor) design does not allow hot plugging. But as long as you
follow instructions the average unit has a very good life expectancy.
No, you won't get the tracking and pointing accuracy of more expensive
units, but for visual use it doesn't really matter. And as long as you
are willing to tinker with it the design can be improved.
