RE: [APML] Scanners
I, too, saw this scanner at the store last week. The 'normal' (as in
traditional, daylight) photography reviews go up and down, but seem to be
'learning curve' problems. Generally they appear to be favorable. Having
both 35mm and 6x6 negatives, I'd like to consider this as a replacement for
the original HP Photosmart S10 and an older HP flatbed.
The latest upgrade to the S10 software, to support Win2K, has a better user
interface, but scanning film at resolutions above 1200dpi are abysmally slow
and have 'registration' problems. It scans, backs up, scans again (which it
didn't do originally), but the backup/restart leaves discontinuities.

All,
On the topic of scanners, has anybody noticed the Epson Perfection 2450
PHOTO Scanner? I saw it for $349 dollars. Its a 2400x4800 optical
resolution flatbed with a 4"x 9" transparency adapter unit built in.
I realize that its not a dedicated film scannner, which are far more
expensive, but are there any thoughts on how this would be for an intitial
foray into scanning? I have been having my film scanned when processed and
have gotten back uneven results. At times the processor hasn't even burned a
disc because the photos "didn't turn out" according to them--despite my
instructions to scan everything.
I'm not sure my skills are at a level yet where I want to go to the expense
of a film scanner, or to sending them out to a specialized processor.

Tony,
It was FIVE times that amount when it first came out, but who's counting
<g>. (Only those of us who bought one when it first came out).

Donnie,
I have seen refurbished Polaroid Sprintscan 35 Plus scanners with a
warranty for $400... in my experience this has been a real work horse and
produces excellent results... it used to cost four times that amount... this
is a deal.
