You are completely right.

My car was broken up a couple of months ago. I had my mount case left on 
the back seat, because the parking lot was too far from the house where 
I am living.
The guys did not take the case with them because of the 50 lbs it had 
... obviously not too valuable.
Instead they took some other stuff, in addition the broken side window: 
The total damage/loss was a couple of hundreds of dolars.
