RE: [APML] IC443

An alternative to Matt BenDaniel's suggestion (using an elliptical marquee
to mask out the star) would be to use the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop to
select the bright star/halo. You might choose a tolerance of 16-32 and then
use the "Select, Grow.." feature until a satisfactory selection is visible.
Then you'd feather the selection (2-5 pixels); invert the selection (to
select everything BUT the star/halo) and then adjust your levels on the
remainder.

I experimented with your on-line image and was able to boost the nebulosity
by about 15-20 units without significant blooming to the star while keeping
the background close to neutral.

Subject: [APML] IC443

Hello all,

I'm trying to process an image of IC443 and have a problem with a bright
star
in the frame. Is there any way to bring out the fainter parts of the image
without also exaggerating the halo around the bright star?

Thanks for any help.
