Re: [APML] bulk film questions
I have been using bulk films since 1976, and have never had a problem with
mositure (on the bulk roll in the loader). I keep the loader in the freezer
(regular stand alone freezer that needs to be defrosted occasionally) in a
large ziplock bag. I still have some 103aF in the freezer! *Regular* films
like bulk Pan-X, Plus-X and Tri-X; all used right out of the freezer and
into a cassette were OK. I have used S0410, S0115 and of course TP2415 in
this way.
When hypering the Tech Pan I take the bulk loader from the freezer, roll one
length (about 36 inches) on to a spool, put the spool in the hyper chamber
and start the vacumn pump. This takes 2-3 minutes. The bulk loader usually
has mositure on the outside by now, but obviously I do not check the film
inside<g>. It then goes back in the ziploak bag and back into the freezer.
I have never noticed any ill effects from this kind of usage in all the bulk
rolls I have used. The Tech Pan 'mottling' problem that surfaced the last
year or two seems to have been an issued with the manufacturing or 'age' of
the bulk rolls. I have changed my source for purchasing the bulk TP, and
have had no problem with mottling since then.
