Re: [APML] bulk film questions
All;
Speaking of freezer vs. refirg and using desiccant. I tried a little
experiment a while back. I wanted to know just how air tight those plastic
containers the film comes in is.
Although not very scientific I removed a roll of RG200S and returned
the cap to the "black" plastic container without any special precautions.
Next I placed it into my hypering tank, sealed it and fired the pump up.
I was pleasantly surprised how long it took to hear the little pop when
the top came off the plastic container. My pump was running 10-12 seconds,
then pop. Unfortunately someone was in the room and we didn't observe the
amount of vacuum shown on the gauge but judging by past espreience I'd
estimate the gauge should have been near the -20 mark.
Like I said, not very scientific but an interesting little piece of
information. FWIW, in the past I stored my film in the freezer in baggies
and their plastic containers without any desiccant. To thaw the film I put
it in my pocket for 10-15 minutes.
I've also wondered what effect the defrost cycle in the freezer has on
frozen film so lately because of the freezer vs. refrig threads I've started
storing my new film in the refrig. What effect does the defrost temp
changes have?
Another curiosity, although not magnetic silver is in film emulsion, is
film sensitive to electromagnetic fields? What about the field generated by
the refrig's motor when it is running? Most motors are located at the
bottom the refrig. My freezer is on the bottom so its close to the motor.
Could this affect the frozen film and somehow add fog?
