Re: [APML] Tax Deduction for Hobby Expenses (US)
Dale--
Even in a hobby, you can deduct expenses to the extent of income. It is
taking hobby losses against other income that gets the IRS excited. Some in
this group, however, who are actively and successfully selling prints of
their work, providing scanning or processing services, or writing
astrophoto books might have a pretty good argument if they have losses
taking into account astro gear purchases and should check with a tax
professional. The working photography pros in the group should also have a
pretty good argument for deducting astronomy gear too if they are selling
astro prints.
