I have pondered this matter myself and reached the conclusion, similar to
Hap Griffin, that the time and cost of development must be questionable
given the range of alternatives in the digital world. I am sure that it
would be possible to develop a plate based camera with suitable emulsions
given access to sufficient technical and financial resources. Unless there
is going to be something technically superior about the final product, in my
opinion it would be difficult to support except purely for the challenge. It
is also unlikely that sufficient market size would be available to provide
enough return on investment if you wanted to formalise it as a line of
business.
