RE: [APML] Another Vuescan question

I've never seen the Polacolor software so I can't give a comparative
evaluation, but Vuescan allows me full control, and more precise control
over image scanning the software that came with the Epson, and for HP
scanners I owned before. Having both a raw and a processed scan at the same
time, if desired, saves a great deal of time, and rescanning from file is
far faster than climbing back thru the closet looking for the box of
negatives.

Trial versions are downloadable at http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html, but it
will take some practice to figure everything out. If the trial version
supports all options, there are a LOT of options and a lot of choices within
the options, especially using the "advanced" menus. Plan on reading and
rereading the user's guide. (The trial version used to support everything,
but 'watermark' anything you saved. The menus have extended enough that I
don't recall if that's still true.)

As far as I can tell, any feature on your scanner that is
accessible/controllable from the outside is accessible and controllable from
Vuescan, even if it is not explained in your scanner's manuals.

(std disclaimer, [or I'd have better answers!]).

Subject: [APML] Another Vuescan question

Rodney's post reminded me that there was something I wanted to ask you
all about. I know many of you use Vuescan. I use the native software
that came with the SS4000, Polacolor Insight. Is there much to be
gained by changing the software? If so, where can I find out more?

After years of refusing to part with the cash to purchase stuff other
than astronomy hardware, I am slowly learning the benefits of such
things. Hardware is still WAY more fun though.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays to all,
Alan
