RE: [APML] Advice, suggestions needed on new images
Hi Alan,
Try balancing RGB channels seperately in Levels using a sample point somewhere in the background where you know it should be black.

Subject: [APML] Advice, suggestions needed on new images
Hey all,
For the most part I am taking a hiatus from processing images until I
can do a little more in PS. Still, I got 4 shots on Fuji Super HQ200
last week. Other than a 105 minute M45 shot that doesn't show much,
there are 'funny' things with each shot and that's what I would like
comments on.
First is a 185 minute image of M78 in Orion. Actually, with this one I
would just like some suggestions on how to proceed. I scanned raw at
4000 dpi, did minimal levels and curves before making a copy and
converting that to an 8 bit jpeg for your review. I love some of the
CCD shots of this and want to do it justice, if I have enough data.
Also, there is some weird 'diffraction pattern' in the lower right. Any
suggestions on how to get rid of it?

On this 200 minute shot of M81-M82 and friend, the print and the scan
both went strongly yellow. My exposure notes indicate that the shot was
fogged out. Meaning: When my wife woke me up at 4:50 to end the
exposure, a layer of fog or clouds had come in and the guidestar was
lost. Still, it looks OK, other than the yellow. Question: is the
yellow from the fog, or a film response problem? Can it be modified in
PS so it looks presentable? Scanned at 4000 dpi, light levels and
curves, converted a copy to an 8 bit jpeg.

And finally, another 200 minute shot of M45. Notes say that the 4-5 day
old moon was up for at least part of this exposure. The color looks
sort of weird. Can it be repaired, and how? Processing same as above,
minimal.

Your help and advice are, as always, greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alan
