William, the nicest way is to buy an extension tube (used if possible) and
find someone with a lathe and build a
threaded or slip tube adapter in conjunction with it.

Subject: [APML] Object finder for Canon
EF lenses and lens mounts?
Does anyone have a commercial source or
detailed guide to building an object finder for Canon EF telephoto lenses and
EOS mount T-rings
on telescopes?
For non-EOS mounts
(e.g., Nikkor lenses), I used to use a SBIG CLA-1, which you could put 1.25
inch oculars in to locate and center objects
for astrophotography. Using a
angle viewer or eyepiece magnifier with an EOS camera is a suboptimal
solution. Spectra Astro Systems used to
build a Duo View adapter for their
Sure Sharp focuser (non-EOS systems) before they went
bankrupt.
I found one guide to building an object finder
from a Canon rear lens cap here:
http://www.astrosurf.com/astroscope/tips/eos300/canon_eos_kiss_digital.htm
Does anyone have information on a more elegant or sturdy alternative to the
modified lens cap solution? Thanks in advance for any
suggestions.
