RE: [APML] Mounting an FSQ-106N onto an AP 900GTO Mount
Wade,
I am also waiting for the stork to drop off my FSQ. Been waiting
since July though, Canadian backorders seem to take a long time to fill. For
rings, have you considered Hutech? They are even Takahashi coloured!
http://www.sciencecenter.net/hutech/mount/mthdw.htm I am using the MR115D's,
with the riser blocks. I am using a DUP for the base and a DUPS on top of
the rings. On this I have a Losmandy piggyback bracket, for shooting "wide
field" with the ST8 and telephotos.
At this time I have absolutely no idea if this works but it sure
looks nice! Sometime this month or next I should have a scope to put in the
rings. Only then will I know if the focuser is reachable, etc. On the Hutech
page you will also find all the measurements for their riser blocks.
Hopefully it tells you all you need to know.

Subject: [APML] Mounting an FSQ-106N onto an AP 900GTO Mount
To all,
I'll be receiving my Takahashi FSQ-106N telescope soon. I'm in the
process of purchasing the mounting hardware. I'm unsure what
exactly to buy. I'll be mounting a Pentax 67 camera to the back of
the scope for deep-sky astrophotography. I currently have an 8.5"
Dovetail Losmandy D Series Plate (DOVELM2) mounted to an AP 900GTO
mount. I'll likely go with Parallax Instruments Mounting Rings;
unfortunately, I don't have a clue which drill hole pattern I need.
First, with such a short telescope, should I get a regular Losmandy
Universal Dovetail Plate (DUP) or the Short Universal Dovetail Plate
(DUPS). I have concerns with both. I fear it may be difficult to
balance the scope with the DUPS, especially with the Pentax 67;
however, the DUP may interfere with focusing given its length. By
the way, I'll be focusing manually. Second, I would like to mount
another dovetail system, probably a DUPS, on the top of the mounting
rings so I can piggyback other Losmandy accessories such as a DCM 1
(i.e. camera mount). In fact, the DCM 1 will be used to hold a SBIG
eFinder/STV combination. Finally, could someone please spell out
exactly what I will need to purchase in order to make this setup
work? For example, I need to know the drill hole pattern, what
mounting plates I'll need, etc. If anyone has a better solution,
I'm all ears. I appreciate your time and expertise.
Thanks in advance,
Wade
