RE: [APML] OT - Replacement Focuser for Meade AR-6
Whichever one you use you are going to need a custom adapter. US$100
should more than cover the cost.
1) JMI NGF/S. With the DRO this gives you a remote controllable
focuser with readout. Or you can add the Robofocus. The downside
is that you are limited to the 2" back = vignetting on film. Not
as good as the others listed but you get a lot for your money.
2) Takahashi 2.7" focuser. The second most rigid focuser out there
(the 4" is better <g>). Add the 10:1 fine focus reducer and you
don't need a remote focuser for imaging. Downside is that the
best is the most expensive, and it is a special order item.
3) Van Slyke focuser. Very well made and about any bell and whistle
you can imaging. But also expensive.
4) AP focuser. Pretty darn good product and (the last time I checked)
cheaper than the Tak. Finding one may be tough, though.
Then there are a variety of focuser really made for visual use that
will work better than stock, but may not be good for imaging.
How much money do you want to spend?

Subject: Re: [APML] OT - Replacement Focuser for Meade AR-6
Hi everyone, I realize not many people in this group may use a scope
like
the Meade AR-6, 6" Achromat but that is what I have to use for now. I
need
to replace the focuser that comes stock with this scope. Has anyone by
chance done this replacement or could recommend a good quality focuser
that
could easily be fitted to this scope? I have contacted one of the big
names
I hear mentioned all the time without any response and am hoping someone
in
this group might be able to help out. Thank you in advance.
Gedas,
