It all depends on your focal length. Tonight (12/15) the comet is moving about 2.7"/minute according to TheSky. If you are using a 300 mm lens with 17" of tolerance, you should be able to expose 6-7 minutes without noticeable trailing. However, I've always wondered how much more you "trailing" can one get away with while shooting comets. Since comets tend to be "smeared" by their coma anyway, it would make sense that you would have more tolerance than what Michael Covington's tolerance guidance would indicate since it is based on a "point" source. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Any info about maximum exposure time without trail?
Thanks
