This was part of my recent argument for going to a message board format. I explained how a message board could be categorized to fulfill the desires of all members. If you prefer to receive emails, you still can: you simply subscribe only to the sections you desire (e.g. 35mm film, 120 format film, autoguiding, digital SLR, CCD, etc...). This is NOT the same concept as Yahoo! Groups. Entirely different. I am a member of numerous message boards for vehicles I own, the community in which I live, etc... The software options available for these types of boards allow for the existence of efficient virtual communities. The thread structure allows for easy reference and research.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I seriously think this could eliminate a lot of problems for APML.

I've been quiet on the list about all these unsubscriptions and squabbling about film vrs. CC. Lord knows that the argument has popped up before over the years with similar rock and roll results. Personally, I don't care anymore whether its silver or silicon. I acknowledge silicon is the future and the future will be here right now the moment these low noise chips become sensitive to H-Alpha.

But I'll chime in with this thought. APML pushes itself as a film only list. Other lists clain to the CCD only or digital only. I am on the digital-astro list muself, but Lordy, I can't keep up with the gush of traffic (4900 unread mesages in that folder). But what we need is a common ground list where ALL types of imagers can keep track of each other. If APML is going to segregate itself into total film exclusivity, is there another list for simply remaining in contact with the astrophotography cowd in general, regardless of what type of imaging sensor they use? I have kind of hoped that APML (as in the sense of the astrophoto mail list, not digital, ccd, of film list) would morph into a common-ground list. Nowadays the once the image is in digital form it doesn't mater whether we scanned film or read a chip dump. At that point, we all do more or less the same thing at the keyboard.

I would dearly hate to have to sift through messages from three or four different lists just to keep up with that folks I have known here on this list are up to. Thats just too much! I have a life and it does not involve 300 emails a day (after deleting the OTHER 300 spam messages).

Where is our common astrophotograhy gound?
