[APML] Re-subscribed

Hello all, I've decided, after receiving several personal messages from various APML members, to re-subscribe.

My AP work could be generously described as mediocre, so I'm under no illusion that my leaving the list left any kind of a void. I decided to leave, after giving the matter much thought, for a couple of reasons:

1.    I think the future of "astrophotography" belongs to digital means of capturing light, and I felt efforts to keep the list "strictly film" doomed the list to eventual oblivion. While I'm still strictly a film guy, I do intend to move to some form of digital sooner or later. I think the list needs to accept (if not embrace) the idea that some discussion of digital techniques is acceptable. I also think that announcements of "breakthroughs" in digital technology are acceptable, if only so that list members can keep up to date (on other lists) with what is happening. For example, "check out such-and-such list or website to see what so-and-so is doing with the new fill-in-the-blank". I thought some members of this list were vociferously opposed to mentioning anything having to do with digital, and perhaps they were, but I don't now think they are in the majority.

2.    But what finally pushed me over the edge was the way in which the discussion turned so uncivil. IMHO, that type of posting has no place on this list, and anyone stooping to name-calling, threats, etc., should be firmly invited to unsubscribe. It is certainly my hope that the list will not see that sort of behavior again, and if it does, that the perpetrator(s) will be soundly put down.

So, thanks to all who wrote me privately. I really don't know what I missed during the two days I was off-list, but I can only imagine there has been extensive discussion of the points I raised, as well as others I'm quite sure. I now return to my usual lurk mode.
