Why not?
It's Christmas time - don't all our happy families get together and fight?
Seriously though, I don't think anyone has ever summed it up better than
Jerry on 8/5/2003:
1. The list started out as a resource specifically and exclusively devoted
to film imaging. It's in the charter.
2. CCD imagers have MANY other resources devoted specifically to CCD
imaging. If someone who belongs to this list wants to learn CCD, they can
go to those sources. There are a few other slight resources for film
astrophotography but they are meager, and low traffic. APML has
historically been the place to go to discuss film. I would like to
preserve this heritage.
Let me see if I can give an example that perhaps by changing the subject
will take some of the heat out of this discussion.
Let's say you and I are interested in old classic cars. We want to form an
informal club where we can talk about old cars, and we do. But some other
people join who have newer and faster cars. In fact, some of them have
never even had a old car and because of this, new cars are all they are
capable of talking about.
Yes, the new cars are better in every way. But it's not about that. It's
about the aesthetic of old cars.
Is there some reason why the people who are interested in discussing old
cars on a list that is specifically about old cars can't get enough respect
from the guys with new cars to honor their wishes?
Why is this so hard to understand? If you want to discuss new cars, GO TO
A NEW CAR LIST.
This is not to denigrate new cars or put their drivers down in any way.
They are great at what they do, and I have tremendous respect and
admiration for them and their cars.
It's just that this particular list is not about new cars, and some people
just don't seem to get it.
Jerry
