Greetings,
I
already feel I may regret selling this but here goes…
The finest wide-field film instrument that can be
bought, and they are not made anymore!
Prior to listing this on AstroMart, I wanted to give you
APML guys a crack.
I am
selling my 8" Celestron Schmidt camera that is in excellent focus. The system
contains;
- OTA tube has had a
gas port added for N2 purge
- 2
no-filter film holders
- 2 filter
holders and written filter clip (one filter clip is damaged, but works
fine)
- Parallax
rings
- Heavy duty 24" long
Losmandy plate, custom made for strength
- Kendrick dew tape for front
corrector
- Home made cloth
shutters (2)
- Home made film
cassette holders (4 finished, 4 experimental, 2 not completed.
-
Home made tools for winding film and other things.
- Original instruction manual and
trunk
- Cases for film holders and
other gear
- Original C8 drive
base and fork arms
- Best film I have found is E200 and Fuji HQ100.
I will include some HQ100 in the deal.
Best I can discern, I bought it un-wrapped it someone who
had purchased it in mid 70s. However that is very difficult to verify as the
serial #s from Celestron mean nothing.
There has been no other mods done to the OTA, it is in
excellent shape, a few paint nicks here and there but optically
fantastic.
I have posted an
image of the area between the Rosette and the Cone taken in late November at
New Mexico Skies that was not useable for images (scratched film) the image is
a single frame 10’ exposure on Fuji HQ100 (no stacks) only minor color
correction, with the edge detail blown up at each corner (scratches on film in
a Schmidt camera are do to poor handling on my part). In addition I added a
central image blow up. Original scans at 4000 dpi scaled to 600 dpi for web
site. A few other picts under Photos using the Schmitt camera that were
not scratched J are also
there.
See my site and look under the PHOTOS
section.

I want about $3000 and we can discuss shipping. If
you are interested I can send picts of the OTA and gear. Not really
interested in shipping internationally, sorry but the risk for in-transit
damage is too high.
Sale is not critical (I know this a bad time of year
for selling too) as I love the images but I am spending more time in city so
less dark sky available and I am more focused on shooting film with my
TEC140 for now.
I am moving more toward the Dark Side if you are going
the other way I would consider a trade for a ST2000XM with the 237 guiding
chip lets talk.
Will leave this for a few days prior to AM
listing.
Regards,
Keith
