Re: [APML] OT: porm spam flood
There are lots of e-mail filters available for the home user.
A simple approach might be to select an e-mail address that is
only for whatever list servers you are subscribed to, and filter
incoming mail on that address to dump directly into trash everything
except e-mail from those list servers. You'll be OK unless Gene
decides to go into the Viagra business!
My SF Bay Area ISP provides user tailorable filters for SPAM and
also filters all e-mail for viruses. They dump the spam into a "Graymail"
folder which allows the user to peruse the message subject and
senders name for messages which shouldn't have been dumped,
and transfer any of those to their e-mail box. The undesired stuff
never gets to your computer. According to my ISP, over 80 percent
of their incoming e-mail is spam. (Oh--they also still offer a Unix
Shell option for true nerds).
More and more ISP's are starting to incorporate features like this.
but I don't think these options exist on freebie accounts like Hotmail.
Hmmm--wonder why?!
