I usually resize with bicubic resampling and set the long side to about 1200
pixels (went a bit higher on this one to try to solve the problem but it
didn't help). This usually allows me to use a high jpeg compression of 7 or
more. The result is always that this image looks ratty at the "fit on
screen" scale of about 9 x 6 inches but when I zoom 2X it looks great. So
the data seems to be fine. It's just the particular scale with the monitor
rez that it doesn't seem to like (I'm guessing).
Any other ideas out there? I'm still sure it's something simple about
resizing I'm missing.

interpolation routine you are using in Image Size is a poor one. Is it
Bicubic, Bilinear o what? Try with bicubic. If none of these is the razon,
then i have no idea ;-)
