Hi all,
sorry if this slightly off-topic subject has already come up. Last weekend,
while at an amateur astronomer fair here in Italy, there were rumors among
several astro equipment dealers of Vixen being about to discontinue its GP
and GP-DX mounts, in favor of the latest, more advanced Sphinx model.

This mount has a cool drive unit with a LCD display: but what is its quality
like? Since I do not intend to purchase it, my question is just for the sake
of curiosity :-))

Anybody know anything about this?

Since I'm on the Vixen and the Sphnix list all I have heard was that Vixen was going to discontinue the GP mount thanks inpart to all the clone competition from China. The DX mount itself is supposed to continue in production for the time being. From what I have heard and read of the Sphinx itself it looks to be a very high quality GEM with a goto that is fairly impressive. However you are still limited to a loading of something like 20 lbs. Most Astro-Photographers are going to want and will need a higher loading than that!  The Losmandy G11 is still not being threatened neither will the mounts from Astro-Physics or the Paramount
