I think most of us have been aware of this problem for awhile. OTOH
though, racoons have scavenged off man for a long time. In that regard
(taking a more politically centralized approach) I do not feel it is a
crime for us to exist, and occaisonally, even interact with these
critters. After all we all live on the same planet and we ARE going to
cross paths once in a while. Racoons are creatures of opportunity, as
most of us are. I would bet my life that the local coons have
scrounging routes that they follow every night as almost everyone
around here has outside animals of some sort.

One night I saw a racoon and Skunky eating out of the same bowl while a
cat sat 4 feet away watching them. They seem to have worked out their
own pecking order that each is comfortable with. They have adapted.
