In this hobby, I believe the soul has to come from within each of us,
individually. Each one of us must find our own way, do what we feel is
right, for us. This is where the soul comes from, it will not matter
whether we are working with film or a CCD. A little part of us is
included along with each image. It will show the care (or lack of) and
the skill, with which each image was taken and processed. It is a
statement about who we are, what we're doing, how important it is to
us, and how long we spent working on that image. That image will have a
part of you, me, us, it doesn't matter. That's where the soul comes
from. When something displays who we are, or tells something about us,
a part of our soul has become embedded in that piece of work. It does
not matter what medium we use, what matters is that we have interacted
with the medium and now there is a piece of us that will always be
imparted to anyone who ever sees the end result of that particular
piece of work. That's why as amatuers, it's important to always
remember what it is that is important to YOU as you continue along in
this hobby. I have always wanted to take pictures of galaxies and other
DSOs since the first time I looked at an astronomy book 40 years ago
and saw b&w pictures of M31 taken with the 200" Palomar scope. I always
thought that that dream was impossible because I could never have the
biggest scope on the planet. That's BS, now I know it IS possible, and
when I look at my own images I always want to remember those and other
feelings and dreams of mine. If I can do that, I will have accomplished
everything I have wanted to accomplish from this hobby.

My apologies, it appears I've rambled a bit longer than I intended.

Alan
