There
are some mid range (US$750 - 1,500) units that come very close, but a
cheaper
($500) monitor will on average produce better colour/contrast.

That being said, I use a mid-range flat screen (NEC) at home because space
is
at a premium.  For the most part it does the job.  But for a really good
image
that I wish to tweak for the best display possible I'll take it to the
office
to work on.
