Re: [APML] Re:submitting astrophotos

Hi Craig,
I submitted 2 of them recently and got an eMail back that if they want them I will be contacted and given details on resolution and what not.  I just submitted low res jpgs for now.

Hello Jose:

This link:  http://skyandtelescope.com/aboutsky/guidelines/default.asp  will get you to our general guidelines for submitting to Sky&Telescope. As I'm the person who ends up working on your shots if their accepted for the magazine here's a couple extra hints that'll help us to get the best quality out of your image.

First, make sure you have all the corrections you want done to your image and then in Photoshop hold down the CTRL key and press the Y key, this will preview your image in CMYK which is the color space the magazine is printed in. If  your image colors change a little bit don't worry about, if they change drastically then please go back and tweak the image so the color change isn't so drastic. I can do amazing things with color balance but if the color shift from RGB to CMYK is too drastic your image will not print with the kind of color range and tones that you envisioned.

As long as your submiting a CD then your 20mb file should have the dimensions set to about 8x10 and the dpi to about 300, this should be your final image. Since there's a rather involved approval process make a second folder on the CD of "Thumbnail" images. You can resize these from the original and make them around 100-150 dpi and maybe around the size of a 5x7, that way the editors can look it over and then decide if they want to use the full res image.

Remember to check the link above and I'll be looking to see if any of your images makes it all the way to my desk.

Good Luck

Hi everyone. This is a quesyion for all those guys that have sent astrophotos to Sky and telescope magazine sometime. I want to sen some pictures and
they (from the magazine) never answer me about how to send the pictures. I have all my pictures scanned in TIFF format (around 20 Mb for a color shot).
Many thanks
