[APML] Combining Two Different Exposures-PS help needed

I've been trying to follow the steps in Jerry's
artcle. Obviously the data needed to be converted to 8
bit, so I did that. But at step 5 I am stuck. I was
able to select>save selection. The he says to make the
other image active by clicking it (OK) and select>
load selection. At this step those options are not
active for me. HELP!

I think he was using PS4.0, i'm using 5.5.
