Re: [APML] ST-4 and the LX200
Don, I use my 10" LX200 classic for AP, but with an STV autoguider, not the
ST-4, but I believe I can still try to answer some of your questions.
You should train your PEC, as this will increase your RA tracking accuracy
and as a result the autoguider corrections should be smaller, since the
autoguider should have smaller errors to correct.
Backlash should be set to the maximum that does not cause a star to "jump"
when you change directions in declination. I usually have mine set to "40",
but the setting will be different for each LX200. If you leave the backlash
setting at zero, the autoguider may have to issue a number of corrections
before the scope will actually respond, due to taking up gear lash.
Finally, the slew setting makes no difference for AP. On the LX200, the slew
setting only affect the maximum slew speed, which is irrelevant for guiding.
I hope this helps, and don't hesitate to ask if you need more information.
