That's a good practice to add to my list!  It certainly would have
saved me a lot of grief with the two 35mm SLRs.

That's very encouraging.  Tomorrow night I go back with friends for
some casual observing and can have a look at the cameras; I suspect I
will find they are NOT on bulb.  And I pick up the YashicaMAT 124
from the shop tomorrow afternoon.
