Re: [APML] Frozen Cameras
Roland;
Here's a good habit that you might want to get into. After you start an
exposure, and you have guiding under control, have a look through the camera
viewfinder. If you see stars, advance the frame, set the shutter to 'B' and
start again. It saves a lot of grief!
A cold weather tip: When advancing film, do it slowly. Film can shatter
or crack at low temperatures! Keep an eye on the frame number as you advance
the film, make sure that film is moving through the camera. With hypered
film, advance VERY slowly and hold your tongue on an angle while whistling
the Star Spangled Banner. :-) If not, you run the risk of static discharges
across the film which give really cool lightening bolt effects to your
image. (voice of experience here)
Like Jon Kolb, my cameras have never jammed and they have not had any
special seasonal maintenance. In fact, other than blowing out frozen
moustache bits from the viewfinder, they haven't had any maintenance since
the 80's.....

You know, that *is* a possibility. Given my frustrations with
everything else, I may not have checked that. I know I did with the
Yashica 12, and I distinctly remember checking the F-stops on the 35mm
SLRs (having shot a roll at f/22 once, I don't forget that check
anymore).
I left the cameras at the site, and will be back this weekend, so I'll
have to have a look. I hope that's all it was as that is an easy
"fix"....
