Re: [APML] Frozen Cameras
Roland
Yes, I have had shutter problems with cameras in the cold.
I use an OM-1 and a Pentax 6x7. The OM-1 has definitely locked open in the
cold. The shutter closes after it warms up a bit. Fortunatly this happened
piggy back so I just put a cap on the lens and took the camera inside.
I believe my Pentax 6x7 did this same thing just the other night at around
10 degree temp, also piggy back. I know it was set to bulb. I know I heard
the shutter fire when I initially pressed the cable release. But when I
released the cable 45 min. later-- nothing. I capped the lens and took the
camera inside to warm. I did not think to look through the camera while it
was still mounted to confirm that the shutter was still open; so I cannot
rule out that the release sipped at some point. I guess I will find out
when I develop!.
Hand warmers are a good idea to keep this problem at bay.
