Alan,
LZW is a lossless (as opposed to JPEG) compression scheme, similar to
ZIP. The reason they give you the choice is that not all image
processing programs can read an LZW compressed TIFF image. If all you
are going to use is PS then go ahead and use the compression. I find
I save about 30 to 50% in file size.
