[APML] clipping

A recent post and comment concerning clipped histograms brings to light
a question. Most of my scans are chopped off along the top of the
histogram. I can make adjustments on the light and dark side using the
scan software but it doesn't work well along the top. Generally they
don't show the top portion clipped until I open the file in PS. How
important is this and does anyone using a SS4000 have any suggestions on
how to adjust this if needed?
