RE: [APML] New image IC 1396

Manfred,

You put a lot of work into that image, and it certainly paid off as a richly detailed portrait.  The three points Id like to make are the corners appear quite dark, perhaps vignetted.  You can use Picture Window pro to fix that very easily.  Second, the red shock front on the right, I think its VDB142 is a bit too saturated, and you may be loosing some detail there.  Its not that obvious, but keep an eye out next time when you scan for flat montone red areas which are red clipped like this. Third,  and what I consider the most important is that the stars are not round, and are trailed in RA.  You need to get your drive working a bit better and then you will double the resolution of your image.    Im being very nitpicky on what is a very fine image, but there is room for some small improvements.

Subject: [APML] New image IC 1396

Hi all,

Bad weather is still going on here in Austria, so I processed one image from september, the IC1396. This nebula is so big, that it doesn't realy fit into my 6" Newton at 650mm FL.

Again, I made an a artificial luminance layer from the red channel, helping me to bring out the structure of the nebula.

Comments are wellcome,
Manfred
