RE: [APML] what wives are for...

Tony, that is a great plan for all of us to see.  Guys like you and me that have been doing film all of our lives have to be persuaded pretty hard to give it up for some technology still in its childhood.  But remember, dont lean either way and be biased going into the tests, or they may end up exactly as you feel now about CCD.  Give both an exactly equal chance!

Hello,

Daphne, aka the voice of reason, has suggested that since this is such a big decision to abandon CCD, it would be wise to run a test using slide films (Provia 100, 400, and Kodak 200) and then compare them to a CCD image. I thought about this and decided that, as usual, she's right... we need to make a test. You guys will be the eventual winners because I am going to post the results. The image will be M42 taken through the 300 f/4 EDIF and I will show the full 35mm frame and a cropped version that mimics the CCD field...I would prefer shooting through the main scope but the seeing won't co-operate.

I am going to reshoot with the CCD using much shorter exposures and add the frames to get around the blooming issues...I'll do the best job I can on all these images... hopefully by the end of this DOM I'll be able to post the results. Based on these results I will then decide which way to go... you already know which way I am leaning.
