Many thanks for that piece of experience Roland, like many others I was
under the impression that tapered was the way to go. I hand't realized
that the runout was that much higher than with ball bearings. The
tapered makes sense on the bottom as it will be taking the thrust from
the load, and as long as the load is substantially closer to the ball
bearing at the front near the worm gear, the error should be reduced.
On a different topic, what is the best method for cleaning dust off of
the Baader solar film? Please don't ask how it got dusty.
