Sage advice Dwight, but I'm looking at picking up
an EQ-6 while I save for either a NJP or an EM-500 and for visual use
with my growing (hopefully!) solar setup. From what I've seen out at the
local dark site you can pretty much flip a coin to figure out whether or
not you'll get a G-11 that'll work for imaging or astrophotography so I'll pass
on the Losmandy thanks all the same. I don't mind reworking a mount that's a
relative bargain but I'm not wild about the idea on a considerably more
expensive mount.
And from the pictures Markus has posted on the EQ-6
list there would appear to be some hope for using the mount with an eye towards
imaging. I'll wait a while and see what folks come up with but it's been pretty
slow lately.
Maybe I'll just have to take one for the
team....
Happy New Year!

Hey I just heard
about it I don't know if that is true or not. The claim I heard according to
one individual as he described it having clock gears and no Worm involved. If
his discription is reliable this is something you really do not want for
Astro-Photography. It may be just fine for visual use only which I would
concur as several have already mentioned.

We are jsut trying to help. Don't let
price only be your concern. If a person say's who sell's these mounts say they
are only suitable for Visual and some piggyback Astro and not prime focus I
think I would listen. The mounts you listed should do the task you want. Maybe
you should save some more money and get the G11. I mean if the Syntha mount
does not meet your expectations your basically stuck. You now have to sell it
and you will take a loss. I think I would just bite the bullet and get the
mount that you need to do the job you want it to perform. And let someone else
be the guppie. :-)
