Re: [APML] M42 at 300mm on new EQ6 mount
Hi Herm, Hi APML,
this EQ6, which really is a bargain for the price (about USD 1000.- / German
price - in the US you'll get an even better package for the same price!), seemed
to be a good choice. The mount is rock-solid, the tripod is simular to the Meade
10" tripods. The polar finder is not illuminated (in the standard version), but
really didn't give me any problem achieving a prompt (fairly) good polar
alingement. I was amazed how fast I was ready to go!
While shooting, the guidestar didn't move out of the FOV during 5 minutes (800mm
with 9mm eyepiece and 2x Barlow) - without doing any drift alignement!
Nice and easy polar alignement is a quite new expirience for me, keeping in mind
I'm comming from Meade GoTo products and aligning these babies was a pain IMO.
My AP setup consists of a 8" f/4 reflector and a 80mm f/15 refractor and the
mount seems to handle them very easily (estimated max. load is about 18 kgs).
Vibrations are almost no issue when touching the setup; give it a second and
everything is fine! I am quite sure my Celestron "Vibration pads" will improove
situation even more.
The mounts hand control look quite "cheap", but act acurate and precise!
Overall, I am quite happy with my decision to go for the EQ6, of course there
are some (only few) points that could be nicer - e.g. the scales on the setting
circles for Dec. and Rek. are not really what I would call accurate (their
taped/glued factory position is not exact), the power connection of the mount to
the power cable is a little loose, but I guess these are things that are easy to
ingnore....
I am very optimistic that results will be fine as soon as I can start with prime
focus photography with my main instrument!
Thanks for taking a look, appreciate your comments,
a Happy New Year to You and all who are reading this message,
Aike
