Re: [APML] SR44's DISPOSAL OF DEAD BATTERIES

I've done a little bit of research on the web. I checked with my state
(Massachusetts), Greenpeace, various battery manufacturers and disposal
companies. Apparently, few are concerned about dead alkaline batteries
disposal (or about MgO2 batteries). Folks say to just dispose of them
in the regular trash. Even if they are burned, it's not supposed to be
a problem. The hazardous waste facilities near me will not even accept
alkaline batteries, because they are allegedly not hazardous.

However, these other types of batteries should be recycled or disposed
of as hazmat: Lithium, Nickel Cadmium, Silver Oxide, Mercury, and Lead
Acid.

I guess I can sort through my batteries and toss the alkalines (e.g. D,
C, AA, AAA, 9v). Alkaline button batteries can only be positively
identified if there is a legible code on them.
