Re: [APML] JMI Easy-align

I do not have experience with this product, but read the JMI website
explanation. I do have the Losmandy polar alignment scope, and am familar
with its use. As best I can tell, the JMI is similar, with the same
performance issues.

Your polar alignment accuracy requirement is a function of how long your
exposure is. A 3 arc min polar alignment error on a 50 min guided exposure
results in the same field rotation as a 15 arc min error on a 10 min guided
exposure.

The accuracy achievable with the polar alignment scope is not as good as
with drift alignment, but may be good enough, depending on your
requirements. I suspect if you took a poll, most people would say you still
need to drift align. But the polar scope is still usefull, as it gives a
good starting point to do the drift alignment.

For reference, I can polar align using my polar scope to an accuracy of
about 5-10 arc min in less than 1 min.

easy-align, you will never have to drift align again. Has anyone had any
experience with it? Does it really eliminate the need to drift align each
time you take astrophotos?
