[APML] astro camera idea

I want to try something with one of my Nikon F's. I want to see about
removing the lens mount assembly, the mirror, and trimming the inside of the
throat to make the camera opening larger to stop my vignetting I get when I
shoot my 12.5" newt. In a normal composition the corner vignetting isn't
that bad, but for mosaics it's a major problem to remove the darker corners
so they blend into the other frames easily. Besides the corners, the frame
at top front of the camera where the mirror slaps up against leaves a
horozontal band of lesser illumination all the way across the top of my
negatives.
I would need a special connection machined to mount to the front of the
camera that would let me hook up to my newt OAG. This will have to match the
correct spacing distance to retain critical focus. Also a dummy camera for
composition and focusing will be necessary.
Is my idea taking the long way around to get somewhere? There are some
Taurus astrocameras made just to solve this problem but I did not like them
at all. Thoughts? Suggestions?
