Mike,

  I have the SS 4000 and Windows XP.  You have to change the setup to
  not use ASPI.  Go to the program folder that has the Polacolor
  software (default is Start->All Programs->Polaroid PolaColor
  Insight) and select the Driver IO Utility.  You want to change the
  Scanner Communication method to STI rather then ASPI.
