When you throw in
all the seeing effects over a 15 minute exposure and the guiding errors on top
of that...
plus the bleeding on the film (or even a CCD chip)
I would expect spot diameters to be a ludicrous discussion... in my experience I
have found the integrity of the receiving medium and the true "apochromatic"
qualities of the optical system to be the governing factors relating to the
actual size of the stars that you end up with in an astrophoto... not to mention
the seeing... which has a HUGE effect on this variable. This can open the flood
gates of a lot of discussion... but there is a big difference between visual
performance and photographic performance... two very different
cats.
