Re: [APML] Drift Alignment Question
Someone said you can ignore this drift. They're correct only if the reticle
is aligned properly, otherwise RA drift also moves the star off the reticle
even if the polar axis is perfectly aligned.
But more importantly, if you see a RA error, you do have a problem that
needs fixing. Balance can be part of it. It could also be pinched worm gear,
overloaded motor, etc. But don't ignore it.
I have recently started balancing my weights using the RA drift. I release
most of the tension on my polar clutch and adjust the weights until there is
no RA drift. If the weights are too far in or out, the RA will drift one way
or the other. I do this in at the same time I am starting drift alignment on
a southern star so the weight bar is horizontal and imbalance is most
pronounced.

Subject: [APML] Drift Alignment Question
> Yesterday, while drift aligning on a star near the eastern horizon, the
star did not drift north or south but it did drift a considerable amount in
an easterly direction. Is that a problem and if so, how do I correct it.
Thanks for your help.
