Re: [APML] OT:Help needed Optimizing Computer for PS(long)
Thanks for the reply....I have been off-line for a couple of days..In my
orginal post I gave my specs, I am already maxed on RAM...768 meg,...my
question was really relating to how I should partition and configure my HD
setup and partitions to optimize the dual boot setup with Win98 and Win2k, it
is better to have both on the same physical drive (separate partitions) or
different drives, should I setup up a separate 2 Gig partiton only to be used
for the PS Scratch Disk, do I need a separate partition for the Win2K scratch
disk.
I am maintaining the dual boot becasue I do not want to risk losing the
functionality of the interface between megastar, telescope control, my
autoguider, my scanner, my modem, my CD-RW, my DVD, etc...all which work well
under Win98. When I do Astro Processing I'll just boot up under Win2K to gain
the performance advantage of the RAM allocation. As I copy my other apps to
the Win2K system and beta test them under the Win2K environment, I'll just
migrate more and more to Win2K.
I know some may ask why this discussion belongs on this group....but I face
this resource issue every day in (trying) to process these images. What we do
pushes the limits of these machines. I bet others fact the same decisions on
deleting files every time they get a "Unable to perform Blur due to scratch
disk full" or when the
machine slows down...for the sake a a couple of iterations of a processing
routine....I am not the heavy user on this group and I see this all the
time...
thanks for any and all come backs.
