Just to follow up on my original post.....when I was using my 300/2.8, 
focusing this lens was the least of my concerns.  My main problem was flexure 
until I found a way to mount this lens satisfactorily at two points.  I 
assume you are using a 300/4 telephoto?  Lens mounting for this lens might 
not be an issue....but piggybacking on an SCT..you may have a problem there 
if using your SCT as a guidescope.  George
