Portra 800 has spectral sensitivity curves very similar to our "old favorite" Kodak color negative films, and is identical to Supra800. Portra 800 is the only member of the Portra line that has a red snsitivity peak around 650nm. The other Portra films peak at around 620nm. I'm sure it's just Supra 800 marketed as the fastest film in the Portra lineup.

In the past I had heard that this film suffered from reciprocity failure, so I hypered a roll for testing with my TV85 last month, but didn't get around to using it. I think you medium format guys should look into Portra 800 as well as Provia 400F.
John,
The Portra 800 images at http://www.seaple.icc.ne.jp/~w-taka/egallery1.htm are only OK, although that may be due to lack of optimal image processing. It is clear that Portra 800 responds very well to O-III (see NGC6992-5). It may be that Portra 800 would do very well overall when hypered. I have previously accepted your opinion that Portra 800 is the same emulsion as Supra 800.
I will try to get around to trying Portra 800 soon, but I hope others try it, too, especially hypered.
I am still sad, because I think there is no film in medium format as good as hypered RG200. I suspect there is no MF film even as good as fresh PPF.
