Re: [APML] OAG for 2.7" focuser

I recently got set up on my OGS 14.5" with one of the Lumicon "Refractor Easy Guiders".  It screws onto the 2.7" focuser mount on one end, and accepts a Pentax 6x7 adapter on the other end.  I do not know whether or not other camera adapters are available for the OAG.  The adapter appears to be manufactured from a source different than Lumicon.  The REG costs about $275, the adapter, another $135.  I also picked up a Pentax 6x7 lens to Pentax K mount adapter from Adorama that allows me to use my 35mm Pentax body with the OAG.  This adapter was another $120.  FWIW, the system seems to be flexure-free, and allows my flipmate-equipped ST4 to come to focus.

Since the scope requires a field flattener to utilize 6x7, I'm going with 35mm for now.  OGS doesn't make a field flattener for the scope, so I'll have to have it contracted out.  Matter of fact, I've worked on list to get this done.  Chuck Vaughn (in another post) has stated that the prism from the OAG will cast a shadow on a medium format frame, and that would appear to be the case.  It may take a fair amount of additional work to get going.

Fred,

With which telescope(s) are you thinking of using an OAG? And which
camera? I have been keeping an eye on this topic for a year now. There
are issues such as the field flattener and stress on the focuser.

Right now, I'm using a guide scope and flip mirror, which is the most
user-friendly option. There is no flexure problem as far as I know.
