Re: [APML] Telephoto Piggyback Mounts

Waren,

I duplicated two DCM mounts.  One for my guide scope, a TV Ranger and one for my camera, an F2 with 180mm ED lens.  The symplest method with the DCM, either the 1 or 2 is to put a plate on top of it long enough to encompass your camera and lens.  Then you can support the front of the lens but just wedging a piece of close cell foam (or wood) under the front of the lens.  Then you can mount the plate to the DCM at the plate, camera, and lens balance point.  Works neat.

Subject: [APML] Telephoto Piggyback Mounts

Guys,
Anyone mounting a 300-400mm 4.5 lens with a Losmandy DCM or DCM-1?? If so
  • Do you steady the nose with a DR ring?
  • What size, 108mm?
  • Most importantly, Is the DCM-1 too high to make it into a ring and does the DCM work?
Any experience with a similar setup might help. Please comment as I need to be PB ready by New Moon and might have some ordering to do.

Thanks,
