Those Mosquito coils are sold under the brand name of "PIC" up here in
AK, and Coleman makes a coil holder that you can hang up and the burning
coil is enclosed-lower fire risk and much more stable than the little
tin bracket that comes with the coils.  Never seen a bear yet while out
but have had a few moose walk thru. Of course any large dark object
moving thru is assumed to be a bear by my endocrine system and a
"modified stationary panic" (as described in one of Patrick F. McManus's
books) always ensues.  I always keep my vehicle unlocked and close by in
case I have to duck inside while the moose browses by. I don't trust
them, but they are usually benign. They generally make enough noise on
approach and seem to prefer vegetation over foam and other hardware.
